Most other spacers increase the plenum volume of the intake manifold which keeps the engine from having to pull from the throttle body or air induction system at a higher flow. This gives the engine a larger plenum to draw its air from at each firing cycle, so velocity in the intake manifold is increased, because it no longer has to rely as heavily on the throttle body or air induction system for air.

The swirl spacers on the market that "work" only do so in certain parameters -- such as at a quarter or half throttle and once the throttle was opened wide open (WOT or full throttle) and RPM raised, some create turbulence and others showed some flow increase. This is more a function of each spacer's design and the application it was being used on rather than producing reliable, valid gains across the board.

What became clear during testing of this spacer was that a straight design with vanes was best overall for performance, fuel economy and ease of production across all RPM ranges and throttle positions. The end result is a much simpler spacer that is less expensive to produce and can be made out of a wider variety of materials.
