Why Upgrade the Z06? – To Be Cooler!

The C6 Corvette Z06 brake system provides outstanding performance for the price. However, one of the areas costs were reduced was in the brake rotors, where the same left-handed casting was used for both sides of the car. This leaves the right side brake system at a cooling disadvantage when compared to the left.

StopTech’s AeroRotor DRK uses the same cooling vane package used on The LG Motorsports #28 Corvette to win races and finish in the runner-up position in the SPEED World Challenge GT championship in 2006. This patented design induces between 10 and 20 percent more cooling air flow than typical curved-vane rotors. AeroRotors are cast specifically for the left and right sides of the car. Benefits to braking performance include reduced brake fade under heavy use and increased brake pad and rotor life.

Reducing unsprung weight directly improves ride quality, handling, acceleration and braking. Weight savings versus the C6 Z06 stock rotors due to the AeroRotor DRK’s aluminum center hat is approximately six pounds per corner.

StopTech’s two-piece, floating rotor design allows the rotor to expand evenly as it is heated, maintaining parallel friction surfaces, rather than coning. This reduces the tendency for radial pad taper wear and promotes consistent performance and pedal feel throughout the service life of a pad set. Note that radial pad taper due to rotor coning is not to be confused with the radial pad taper caused by OE shims on OE pads in severe use. The AeroRotor’s two-piece design also transfers less heat to the vehicle’s hub and wheel bearings, promoting enhanced service life of these parts before their wear leads to brake pad knockback.

StopTech AeroRotor DRKs for the C6 Z06 are available with slotted surfaces to enhance durability under severe use, or cross-drilled to aesthetically match the factory cross-drilled rear rotors.
