PolyMatrix "H" compound is about as close to a "run it everywhere" pad
material that could possibly exist. Drivers are calling them “the most drivable
pads” they have ever run. "H" compound is a high friction, long wearing material
that is capable of withstanding the extreme sustained high temperatures found on
hard braking short tracks and road courses. It is also well suited to
intermediate length and super speedway applications where positive, but
controllable initial engagement at lower temperatures is preferred for trail
braking and "touch" and go race conditions.
PolyMatrix "H" compound produces high friction values right from the start.
Then, as heat builds, it exhibits a very moderate rise to produce the highest
friction values available from materials used with iron or steel rotors. Two key
characteristics of this material are the softer initial bite and the progressive
increase in stopping power as pedal pressures and temperatures continue to rise.
The soft initial bite reduces the nose-dive tendencies as the car begins the
transition into deceleration. When the car does not nose over abruptly, the
driver can be more consistent and in better control of each corner entry. "H" is
then easily modulated with pedal pressure to increase or decrease the stopping
power throughout the entire temperature range. The smooth engagement qualities
and consistent cold to hot bite of "H" make it simple to maintain front to rear
bias settings using the same pad material at both ends of the car.
PolyMatrix "H" is fully compatible with all types of cast iron and high
strength steel rotors. As is the case with most racing pad compounds, "H"
reaches peak performance after it's first full bedding cycle. During the first
heat up and cool down cycle of the pads, two important things take place. First,
the pad itself receives a final "heat curing' under real load conditions. Next,
the pad and rotor surfaces are mated and a microscopic boundary layer of
friction compound is transferred onto the rotor faces. The boundary layer
provides an improved friction surface to react with the pads and then acts as a
buffer to reduce abrasion to the rotor faces. Proper bedding and a uniform
surface boundary layer will also reduce engagement chatter and assure repeatable
clean releases.
For ultimate
strength and security under extreme applications, PolyMatrix utilizes the
world’s most revolutionary method of mechanical retention between the friction
pad and the backing plate. The patented Nucap Retention System (NRS) was
developed to provide the strongest, quietest, safest and most reliable method of
securing the friction material to the backing plate. PolyMatrix is the only race
pad that features this exclusive 100% mechanical retention method. There are no
welded retainers to break free, and no heat distortion in the plate that would
result from a welding or brazing process. There are no punched holes or stamped
dimples to further weaken or distort the plate. The one piece solid backing
plate is in itself the retention system in this innovative new component.
The entire area of the NRS plate, which is under the friction material, is
covered by rows of tiny steel projections. These projections resemble small
hooks. Every hook is controlled for height, curl and direction. The hooks
interact as opposing forces from all possible load angles. Once molded, the
backing plate and friction material become one integral unit. Shear and
separation are gone. Edge lifting and vibrations between the plate and friction
material are gone. By eliminating the IM holes, the backing plate is stronger
and stiffer. Flex and vibration are virtually eliminated, thereby reducing noise
and any possible chance of separation. The driver gets a firmer pedal feel, lap
after lap, no matter how far down the pads are worn.
NRS has been tested throughout a wide range of conditions in racing, police,
military and general highway use. All tests have proven NRS to be the safest,
strongest and most reliable method of securing the friction pad to the backing
plate. The results are the quietest running, strongest and most reliable method
of friction retention ever known. And this method can now be yours in
PolyMatrix.
It is because of these methods of careful component selection, strictly
controlled manufacturing and the utilization of the latest technology on all
fronts that Wilwood can assure consistent performance, precise fit and maximum
reliability under the harshest conditions with PolyMatrix brake pads. That’s
what we feel our customers deserve.
