A: Keep reading.

The dry vs oiled air intake is taken up another notch when a Camaro SS air intake offers each type of filter. As we’ll see, each type of filter has its own advantages. Depending on what you’re looking for with your engine performance, you can quickly find a preference. But sometimes, the differences are so small, it’s hard to choose between a dry vs oiled air filter.

Before getting too involved with the dry vs oiled air filter debate, just remember that when it comes to premium Camaro accessories and aftermarket components, there is no debate with who has the best Chevy car parts. Back to the dry vs oiled air filter discussion – which one is best for your Camaro?

Let’s take a look.

Differences Between Dry and Oiled Air Intakes

The main distinction between the two types of air intakes has to do with the air filter. Simply put, oiled air intakes have an air filter that’s coated with oil, while regular “dry” intakes have a typical non-oiled filter.

Why do some Camaro SS owners prefer an oiled air filter? These types of filters are made with a superior blend of cotton, designed to promote extra air flow. With an oiled air intake, your Camaro will enjoy optimal air flow into the combustion chamber, so added HP gains are a possibility.

One big advantage of an oiled air filter is its durability and longevity. They simply last much longer than a regular (dry) air filter. As long as you follow your oiled air filter’s suggested cleaning and maintenance schedule, your filter will last 50,000, 75,000, or even 100,000 miles and beyond.

One issue to be aware of with an oiled air filter is excessive lubrication of the filter. If you add too much oil, extra fluid can come in contact with your air flow sensor. But this is a small concern, when you consider the optimal HP performance that an oiled air filter provides!

The advantages of a regular air filter involve service and maintenance. With a dry air filter for your Camaro cold air intake, there’s no need to oil the filter during checkups and regular maintenance. If you prefer a streamlined, simple service schedule for your Camaro SS, a dry air filter is the right choice. Generally, a dry air filter lasts between 10,000 and 20,000 miles. Always check your Camaro’s service manual for a replacement schedule. Many Camaro owners choose to change their dry air filters every other oil change, or stick to a regular 15,000 mile schedule. At the end of the day, you’ll have to replace your air filter more frequently than an oiled filter. So just stick with a maintenance plan that works with your budget, and still meets your car’s minimum requirements.
